Yesterday, over on her Kommein blog, Deb Ng posted a list of thirty things that she misses. It really got me thinking, so I couldn't help but make a list of twenty things that I miss. I would have done thirty but it would have essentially boiled down to things I miss about my home town.
1) 80s kids' cartoons like Count Duckula or Dangermouse.
2) School holidays.
3) Staying up until 4am just to talk random nonsense with someone online.
4) Receiving actual letters in the post, not just marketing circulars or bills.
5) Wispa Cappuccinos.
6) Having a garden, and not having to visit a park just to enjoy green space.
7) Proper phone calls to catch up, instead of relying on Facebook statuses to see what someone's up to.
8) My rabbit.
9) The clacking of old keys on a typewriter.
10) The deathly silence of a week day morning in the suburbs.
11) Being only half an hour away from the coast.
12) Pretty much the North East in general.
13) Cinema prices being less than a fiver.
14) Dressing up to go out to dinner.
15) Going to the theatre.
16) People talking to one another on public transport.
17) Mobile phones that simply let you call someone.
18) Being able to see the stars.
19) Manners.
20) When people were famous for having a talent for something besides getting themselves in the paper/on TV.
What about you? What do you miss?

I agree with the majority of them! Apart from 4am nonsense talks…I still do that.
I especially miss cinema prices been so cheap, I remember going to see Ace Ventura 2 and paying one pound!!
Count Duckula and summer holidays will always have a special place in my heart *sigh*
Now I'm sad...
1) Getting a 10p mix from the sweet shop, where the newsagent would pick up a paper bag and I'd proceed to tell him which of the 1p sweets I wanted in the 10p mix. *sigh*
2) Sausage and chips from Crane's chip shop on Garrick Way. 15p.
3) Riding my Chopper meant going for a bike ride.
4) School milk with the red straw
5) Saturday mornings - when the distance between them and Monday morning stretched out like the hot, dusty Kalahari.
I should stop now and make my own list up.
Great prompt, Icy.
Aw, you've made me feel all nostalgic. I agree with a lot on your list, apart from I moved back 'home' so I don't miss that any more.
The main thing I miss? Peace and quiet!
Count Duckula was awesome. And my phone still "just calls people." I'm such a retronaut.(LOL) Good list, honey. I sympathize too.
I miss that one episode of Count Duckula when all these different sorts of creatures popped up. Were-duck, Mummy-duck... was a neat menagerie.
I also miss eating junk food with abandon. Exercise and veggies do not pack the same satisfaction.
Steven - So do I...on occasion. Not good when you have to get up at 6:30am though!
Ian - God, I remember 10p mixes...do you remember when Space Invader crisps were only 10p, too?!
Emma - Yeah, peace and quiet is easy to miss...but then we get bored when we get it!
Monica - Someone got me Count Duckula on DVD for my birthday. ^_^
John - No...food that's good for you never tastes as good as food that's bad for you.
Peace & quiet. Yes, it can get boring, but I'd like the opportunity.
Hiking and camping.
89c/gal gasoline. Actually, we should have slapped a $1 or $2 tax on it back then.
The 80s.
I will second the Dangermouse notion and Darkwing Duck, Robotech, Voltron, Starblazers, Saturday morning cartoons in general.
Bags of mixed lollies, when $2 actually bought a veritable feast for a kid.
Writing and reading letters
Good manners
Suits - I wear them for work and they feel good. Including waistcoat, pocket watch, cuff links and hat.
Adam B @revhappiness
FAR - I remember when petrol in the UK used to cost around 50p per litre. It's now over twice that.
Adam - I can just see you in that kind of get up!
I have Count Duckula on DVD. Along with The Trap Door and the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon - although I knew them as Hero Turtles not ninja.
And various non computer animated Disney films :)
Great list, Icy. I think what I miss the most is direct contact with nature, and the adventure you can have with it. Also the stars... *sighs*
